I like the new look! Hopefully you can just sit back and enjoy your shrimp now.

Re: Stagnant water
It's because of the brackish water. Not a lot of things grow/survive in this salinity. Once tank is cycled, it's a true ecosystem on its own. Water in opae ula tanks should be pristine clear and non-smelly.

Re: Black Algae Growth okay? No green algae?
The water looks clear and the shrimp are doing fine, so I don't think the algae on the lava rock is of any real concern. You might not see visible algae now elsewhere because of the nerites, they have a big appetite.

Re: First Baby Shrimp in New Tank!
Thanks! I don't feed my shrimp cus there is always visible algae even with snails. With this particular new tank, there was actually too much algae on the glass, so I knew I didn't have to feed them extra. Maybe stop feeding for a while and see what happens! Overfeeding definitely is worse than unde...

Re: First Tank! Q&A, Stories and Moments Thread
Sometimes first time moms will drop some or all of the eggs, it’s nothing to worry about, they’re learning. The number of shrimp will reach an equilibrium given the tank size and food availability. 3/4 gallon (just a pure guesstimate) can probably house close to 100?

Glad to hear it's getting clearer. Sounds like an algae bloom.
I'm always amazed at how many eggs Mustafa's shrimp seem to carry.

Very interesting! That makes me appreciate how little we need to do for opae ula.

Keep us posted on the live plants...but nothing survived in mine, and the mess it made probably delayed reproduction by a year. The shrimp just don't reproduce when there is too much nutrients.

Re: Eco Refugees / New Tank
Kudos on taking out the marimo, that saved you a lot of trouble down the road. Plastic is great! They're perfect for opae ula tanks. I'd just wait for signs of algae (I personally wait for green algae, but brown is fine too if it's been over 2-3 weeks).

I love how the shrimp was scratching its back with a swimlet while foraging for food with it's claws. It's a multi-tasker!
I've thought about getting a 20x macro lens for my phone camera, but haven't committed to it. Since this is the only subject that I have in mind to shoot.

Congats on the babies! Hope you start getting a steady stream of them. The moss ball floats sometimes, but eventually settles down. It reproduces very slowly, and mine wasn't a clean-cut case. A while back i noticed the moss ball started missing chunks, I moved it to another tank, where it didn't sh...
