Re: Digging into 'ecosphere' claims
I think Eco Sphere went out of business. The website has been down for some time.

Re: Faded/starved algae?
Personally I would advise against any more feedings. It's 6 years old and doing well except for the chaeto. It in balance. Why change it just for the chaeto?

Re: Faded/starved algae?
Personally I would just leave it be since it's doing well. You can remove some of it and see if the rest starts to recover.

Re: Faded/starved algae?
There's not enough nutrients in the water to support it.

Re: Cloud layer?
Disturbing the water does nothing to the algae. I just pour my water in and then use a spoon to stir the water well so it mixes in. Sounds like you're being too careful.

Re: Cloud layer?
The water is not mixing enough which is causing a separation of the water salinities.

Re: Cloud layer?
Stir up the water. Looks like there's a separation in there between the salinities.

Re: Newbie with Two Tanks
Best way to tell is see if the Operculum is still intact. If it is they're still alive as it will quickly detach when the MTS dies.

Re: Thorax color
I assume you're looking at the saddle like these? I do have quite a few like this but not all seem to develop into eggs. Not sure how long they stay this way but I assume it's a good sign.

Re: Cycle a tank with no light?
Lighting is necessary IMO. What about a USB powdered light? Keep in mind if you used distilled or RO water it will take time if all you're doing is waiting on it. It's pure brackish water void of anything. The light will help algae to grow in there.

Re: Brown mold?
That's quite a bit of it in there. I don't think the shrimp will make a dent in it. I'd be more concerned as to what's causing it as it will eventually take of the tank.

That's the coolest when your females release and you have floaters. Non stop staring I'm sure.
