Hi Pete! They will hatch without problems, but the larvae won't survive in freshwater. They need brackish water to survive. The larvae will be tiny and float in the water column like brine shrimp. You might see some float around in about 4 weeks, although I doubt you will notice them in your 125 gal...

Hi Pete, If shrimp do not get much food they actually stay small as they age. That's why you never know how old shrimp in pet stores are, regardless of size. And old shrimp can still be small. Take care, Mustafa All of my red cherries are 3/4 of an inch. Fully grown cherries are supposed to be an in...

As Tim has mentioned before, that little copper might not be enough to kill your shrimp (although I would still not use fertilizer personally). Breaking down a 125 gallon is not an option. Obviously your shrimp are doing fine. If there had been copper or other harmful chemicals/metals in your tank, ...

As I wrote in the other thread you might just have females in your tanks. If you do not have some pretty much see-through shrimp in your tank but just red ones then they are all female. As to the cherry reds dying, they might just be dying of old age. Yes, there might be molting problems that also e...

Hi Pete, Yes, the yellow goes about halfways down the body but becomes thinner. Could it be that you have no males in your tank? The yellow behind the "neck" only disappears when the shrimp is carrying eggs. However, when the eggs are infertile, the shrimp discards them. Also, if you want ...

Re: Hi! and my tanks

Hi Ethan, Welcome! You have a truly beautiful planted tank there! Respect! The Red Cherries do not get a golden line on the back. It's more of a yellow spot on the neck, which are basically the ovaries of the shrimp. Those are eggs in "pre-development". Take care, Mustafa Can anyone tell m...

Oops...I meant Crystal Red of course. I changed that im my post above. I'm glad you liked the article. :) The only thing I can add is that the Crystal Reds might be more productive in softer water with a lower PH, but that is not a certainty.

The 5 gallon won't do for long. It's just too small for large numbers of shrimp. It's harder to keep water quality constant in such a small tank and you need to water changes *very* often (which is a lot of work). It's ok as a grow up tank for young shrimp, but not as a breeding tank. Get at least a...

That site has been around for more than 5-6 years!! It has not changed ever since, either, so some of the information is actually obsolete and has turned out to be not quite correct.

Hello Tim, Keeping Crystal Reds is similar to keeping all the other algae eating shrimp described on this website. Read my article "How to keep algae/detritus eating Shrimp" under the Articles section on my website and most of your questions should be answered. I'll give you short anwers h...

Well, in Japan the ones that look like candy-canes are more valuable. In Germany it has been the other way around so far....the more red the animals had the better. If you get those new Crystal Reds and the picture looks more like the Shrimp in the Petshrimp Discussion Forum logo-pic, then I would n...

I would not do it. You want to keep the tank as natural as possible without having to tinker with chemicals too much. It's just too risky. And the plants really do not need fertilizer if you have animals in the tank.

Take care,
