Re: the journey of my tank..

You can put moss and macroalgae in before the cycle is complete and doing so "might" speed up the cycle because of the bacterial organisms attached to them. But why pay for two shipping charges if you don't have to. If you add the shrimp, snails, moss and algae to a well cycled tank you'l...

Re: the journey of my tank..

After the tank has cycled you can put shrimp, snails, moss, and macroalgae in. The bioload of 10 shrimp and 10 small snails will not overwhelm a 2 gallon cycled tank. Do Not Feed....That is key. Typically, there will be enough algae and biofilm in the tank to sustain the creatures. It's all about b...

Re: the journey of my tank..

Wait until you see algae growing on the glass or rocks or substrate, and you'll be good to go. It can take a while and be sure to not put it in a window that gets direct sunlight because that is too much light and the algae can go bonkers, and it can really heat up the tank to unsafe temps. A north...

Re: the journey of my tank..

The 2 gal Anchor Hocking Heritage Jar with the glass lid works perfect. You can add three adhesive silicone door bumpers to the under side of the lid which raises it a bit to allow for air exchange. That's what I've done to mine and it works a charm. The 2.5 gal Anchor Hocking Montana Jar has a met...

Re: 1st Berried Shrimp! What to expect?

Hello! I just spotted my first berried shrimp, I'm so excited!! I'm curious though, what's the timeline like? How long do they take to hatch? :) ======= About 30 to 35 days, then they will be in the larval stage bobbing around the water for about 15 days and then they will become miniature guys tha...

It's the one that is sold here by Mustafa. It grows in brackish water unlike the common type found in pet/fish shops.

Re: Has anyone seen...

A shrimp picking very aggressively at the decor? Normally, my shrimps go about their business just lightly picking away at the sand and decor munching happily. But lately, I have one shrimp that gets on the sea fan and just yanks on it for all he's worth. He bounces around and looks like he's doing...

I'm going to say it'll work based on what Dr Tim says about his freshwater nitrifying bacteria. He says it's fine for brackish water but beyond that you'd need to use his sea water formula.

Re: Tank setup

Just FYI, when I set up my Betta tank a year ago I put a Nerite snail in almost immediately. It was well before the cycle had even completed. The snail survived excellently. There was no form of algae present, green nor brown, and the snail never ate any kind of food that was added. I wondered how ...

Snail was moving the first two hours, but the last 6 hours it didnt move anymore. Can i assume that its sleeping or is it suffering? Anything i should pay attention to, or just watch if he has moved over the night?

Snails are like that. I wouldn't worry.

Re: Tank setup

Actually you can use old freshwater tank water. Just make sure its only half of the water, and that the rest is distilled water that is at full sea water strength (thus you get half sea water strength for the tank as a whole). Mustafa explained it in this topic: https://www.petshrimp.com/discussion...

Re: Almost ready

It is a real Anubias. Why would it harm the shrimp? I don't understand that. Is it that it will consume the nutrients in the water and inhibit algae growth? I have 2 freshwater tanks I can move it to. I had just read that Anubias and Java Fern can live in brackish water. How would this be for a rep...

Re: New Belgian opae ula owner!

For your information, bought 1 neritina turrita snail this morning. I used a rough dripping method for the salinity and introduced the snail to the tnak after two hours. Two hours later the snail is doing fine and is feeding in the algae of the substrate. Very curious how much one snail can do to k...
