Re: Nerite Eggs/Larvae?
Thanks mike.d! So you never had baby snails then even with some of the eggs hatching? I just separated the males from the female that's been laying eggs. I think that'll stop the eggs from appearing for now, until I know if I want to breed them.

Nerite Eggs/Larvae?
I have some Pipipi snails, a type of nerite, in my tanks. This week I finally saw about 15 eggs scattered around the tank. I read that they will hatch in brackish water but need salt water to mature from larvae to snails. Can anyone who has nerite in their tank let me know what I should expect? If t...

Re: No longer lurking
:smt005 :smt005 I have had 2 different dreams that I came in and found algae in the tank Second Varanus' post, drip acclimation is not needed. As for the method to transfer them from bag to tank, I put a small fish net on top of a small bucket, snip a corner of the bag (have to be kinda careful how ...

Re: Update- "Starting from Scratch"
What kind of scent? Chemical scent or organism scent? If it stinks, too much ammonia is a possibility. Do you have large snails in there? Do you feed them?
Taking the heater out is a good idea anyways!

Re: Update- "Starting from Scratch"
Sorry to hear that! It's usually something that got in the water recently that could be causing havoc. Did you paint or use cleaning product near the tank? You don't have a heater right?

...in a vase filled with a roughly brackish combination sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium silicate in purified water. (I'm a geochemist, and had these things available). Sorry to hear that the ecosphere broke. And secondly, I'm glad you put your profession as an FYI lol :smt005 Good ...

Re: Help a newbie? Much appreciated.....
I hear you...I wish there is a way to hurry up the process, but you'll have to wait till algae shows up. It's okay to keep them in the water they came in for about 2 weeks. It's probably not pleasant, but better than having your new shrimp be the canaries of an uncycled tank.

Tiniest Molt
I guess my shrimp are always hungry so I don't see a whole lot of molt. Yesterday I spotted the molt of a 1-month old baby shrimp (judging from size) and it's so tiny (about 1/3 inch)! This was the tiniest molt I've ever seen in my tank. On another note, my 12G tank ended a 3-month pause on re...
