Shrimp Distress Signs?
So how do shrimp tell you that they aren't doing so well? Fish clamp their fins together or turn pale. I was wondering if shrimp do anything similar? I noticed a shrimp on its back and kicking its feet. Would that be a distress sign or is it just molting? When snakes shed they need to rub around a l...

Shrimp Carrying Eggs?
So how exactly do you tell if a shrimp is carrying eggs? I have seen some pictures of shrimp with eggs in them, however mine look different. I know this seems silly, but they are really hard for me to see well. Also, my cherry reds aren't so cherry red. I bought 20 of them, two died and most of them...

Molting Question
I have some cherry red shrimp and I'm wondering if the molts have the antenna attached to them too? I have only had the shrimp a few days, and I want to be sure that what is on the bottom of my tank are exoskeletons and not dead shrimp. Do the dead shrimp float, or rest on the bottom? I might be a l...

Light Requirements for RCS
Right now, I don't have a light in the tank I have with my red cherry shrimp. I want to get a light to help bring out the color and so I can see them better. I have a 10 gallon tank and I want to get a 36 W light at 6500K color temp. Is this too much for the shrimp? Some fish/aquatic life hide when ...

I'm using the filter max III prefilters. I got them and I was amazed by the size at first. They are very large but they evenly intake the water so the intake isn't as powerful. The shrimp are always on them looking for algae and small peices of food to eat. I think it was a great buy. I got them for...

I clean the gravel with a python. First, start with the suction turned off. Then put the tube deep in the gravel and make sure there aren't any shrimp in the tube. Then turn it on and do the needed cleaning. After all the nasty stuff has been sucked up, turn off the siphon and repeat. But obiously y...

I have read that page and the shrimp keeping guide, but I'm asking if there is anything that can be done to induce breeding. For example, some fish are more lilkely to breed when there is a temperature change or a change in ph. Basically, I'm looking for anything besides what is in the article. The ...

Any Breeding Tips for RCS?
I just ordered some red cherry shrimp and I'm wondering if anyone can offer any breeding tips? I have a 10 gallon tank that will be just for the shrimp. It has some ricca and DIY Co2. I have the temperature at 77 degrees. Keeping the temperature in this range was about the only tip I found. One thin...

I don't know much about artic shrimp, but I can tell you artic or topical your need to find a way to put in a filter. There isn't much of anything you can keep successfully without a filter. Most shrimp are very senstive to the water so you need to keep it as clean as possible. White cloud mountian ...

I am new too but I would say if you want the baby shrimp to survive they need to be kept in a tank without any fish - even the samllest ones. The 5 gallon tank is a good idea, but shrimp are sensitve to bad water so make sure its cycled well before you add any shrimp. You can speed the cycling by ad...

How big are the shrimp when they are first born? The main problem I'm having is how do I setup a shrimp tank when I have never seen the size of the guys? I see that it posts the size of cherry reds in the shrimp page, but thats the max size. How big are the babies right after being hatched? Are they...

Your question is definately highly opinionated. Just like asking which is better, ford or chevy? :-p That question can start a riot..... Anyway, I think most people like the cherry reds. Its really up to what you like though. If you hate the color red, then you might consider something else ;-) All ...
