Re: My first berried shrimp!

It is fairly common to drop most or all eggs the first time they become berried. Don't forget it is a learning experience for the shrimp as well.

Re: Brackish snail experiment

Those Theodoxus are beautiful. I bet they would be a big hit if they ever get imported to the US.

The New Zealand mud snail is considered an invasive pest where I live. It's not illegal to possess them, but it is illegal to import/bring them in from outside the state.

Re: Spirulina Powder gives off red plume?

I've noticed it as well....the spirulina I've been using came from Kansas. I haven't noticed any negative effects. I have been feeding it to ostracods, fairy shrimp, Gammarus, Daphnia and snails.

Re: Ecosphere - questions & help

Yes - your shrimp molted. The term for a molted exoskeleton is "exuviae". It shouldn't last for long - your shrimp will eat it.

Re: Another Vernal Pool Geek

Thanks, Mustafa! Ostracods are my favorite as well....when established properly they can be as "hands off" as supershrimp, although they'll never be as long lived or colorful.

I'll see if I can find something that deals with lifespan in the wild or normal captive conditions

Re: Another Vernal Pool Geek

Saw at least two Branchinecta mediospinosa with egg sacks today. Having a very difficult time photographing them.

Re: Another Vernal Pool Geek

Placed my Branchinecta mediospinosa eggs a week ago. Saw the first hatchlings on Tuesday - now I've got about 50 of them. Biggest one might be 1/4 inch long now. Waiting to see how long it it takes to notice an egg sack.
