Re: 1st time trying a shrimp tank = failure.

Update, my refractometer came in and after a quick calibration my salinity was 1.004 to 1.005ish. Is that okay? According to the guide, I really should add a bit of reef salt to increase that a bit. Thanks, Porq .. Shrimps getting stuck in the gravel is highly unlikely. Never heard of it happening,...

I use a clear plastic potted plant saucer. They come in a variety of sizes and are inexpensive. You can find them at any garden center or the big home improvement joints.

My snails do the same from time to time, and don't know why. I have plenty more. The shrimp will self regulate the population. Water top offs are all you need.

BTW, I have a 7 gallon tank that I started with ten shrimp and now have between 150-200. All in a little over a years time. I have plenty of rocks for hiding and shelter as well as trumpet snails and macroalgae.

Re: Shy lil things

So, I've had the tiny lil shrimps (10 of them plus some macro algae) for a little over a week now (7g cube, crushed black lava rock for substrate and a few bits of seiryu stone). There's brown algae all over the place so I'm not *too* worried about food. Unless they don't eat the brown algae? Also,...

MTS are not a problem. They help create balance. All of my thirteen tanks have MTS.

Hi guys, I'm from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia I got the shrimps couple of years back about 7 of them in a small bottle and slowly got them in bigger tank while donating the smaller tanks. The latest would be the white 60 liter tank. I'm interested to get my hands on some plants, currently I have chaeto ...

Lighten the load. Remove the large rock and some of the water. Save the water and put it all back together when you get to your new location.

Re: New Tank & Algae After 7 Days

.. Do you have plans to remove the sponge filter at some point in time? All 12 of my tanks are flourishing too, plenty of breeding and so forth. Except my algae is at a minimum and my chaeto in all but 3 of the tanks is slowly withering away. Not a big deal as the shrimp eventually consume it. Thank...

It looks great after just 60 days. I assume you use either distilled or ro water with the marine salt of your choice and top off with either.

I'm just trying to figure out what is going on with your tanks to have such lush and constant growth.

Thanks

Re: Snail Population Problem?

You bought the snails from petshrimp.com? If so you have no worries. Do you feed your shrimp? A bit of spirulina powder once in a while is a good thing. It often times takes more than six months for any breeding to occur.
