Re: Larvae light behavior

Maybe an atavic behavior from their marine ancestors, they are tough enough and lack of predators to be bothered by this (maybe) useless behavior.

Brackish snail experiment

Hello. I will try a thing. I caught many Theodoxus fluviatilis, a freshwater nerite common in Europa. It's the breeding season so they have already covered all sufaces with calceous capsules :-D Anyway, this specie is easy to breed and... Can tolerate brackish water in the range liked by Opae Ula, s...

Re: Strange algae formation

By protist I mean, motile not phototrophic ones... or maybe euglena. This is the first time I see that in a brackish tank, but in fresh water without filter it's common.

Re: Plants and algae compatible with Opae Ula

I dont need other sources, a single example against a hypothesis is enough to take it down. I just have to illustrate my case with photos... tomorrow ;)

Plants and algae compatible with Opae Ula

Aloha fellow aquarists. In this tread, I will make a list of plants and algae compatible with Opae Ula tanks. For this, the vegetable should be able to live and grow forever at such intermediate salinity, so forgive most of mosses and ferns being green for month before eventually dying! Please reply...

Re: "Planted" supershrimp tank

I have dark green fuzzy clumps on my rocks, those are cyanobacteria and its only growing on mineral or dead material (like the oldest pieces or marimo balls), Hair alage (this is the one you see in my pictures) is growing everywhere, I dont know why and yet it can outgrow other algae/plants I think....

Re: "Planted" supershrimp tank

Of course. My substrate is lava rock with some corals, I think it doesnt matter. The algae (only one plant) are: -Caloglossa beccari, sold as "red moss" for freshwater, I think it can be transfered from fresh to salt water rapidly because its a red algae witch are very good at avoiding cel...

Re: Nanosphere 9

When a crystal is colored by something (iron, copper), it's in very tiny amounth, so tiny it's almost impossible to detect without spectroscopy, I dont think it would kill shrimps. BUT beware of other minerals growing around your piece of aragonite, it may be way higher content of heavy metal.
