The females have smaller front legs like badflash said. They do have the fangs like the males.

The official female count is 2. Out of 12. This is going to end up being a year long project I think...

On another note, it is so cool when these guys molt. They leave so much stuff behind it took me quite a few beats to realize why one of my shrimp was feeding on its side.

By fangs I meant the very tips... I thought I had read somewhere the females didn't have them, but wasn't sure I remembered it right. Looking at their legs now I do see that some of them must be female. Fewer than I'd hoped... that's why it wasn't noticeable. That's a shame. Thanks for the info. Now...

Well, I have the vampire shrimp... 12 of them... now to figure out how to sex these guys.

Some of them don't have the "vampire fangs" but I don't know if that's a gender thing or if they just lost them.
