The best way to get them out is physical removal. Try this: tie a piece of zucchini to a string and lower it to the bottom of the tank, with the string hanging out. The snails will climb onto the zucchini to eat it and you can carefully pull it out so the snails don't fall off. You can use a turkey ...

So, and I realize this is probably a stupid question, but what kind of population density are you going for after the split? My husband bought me a new tank  and now that I'm done shuffling, am looking for new inhabitants for my old 10 gal, and was thinking of these guys...

I'd say shrimp eggs too -- my RCS did that once, drop a clump of eggs right on a plant, and that's pretty much what it looked like.

Thanks for the support... everybody is safe and sound in the new tank now, although I think my head is going to explode. Shrimp are dang hard to net! I also used the opportunity to get rid of most of the gravel, so I just have lots of rocks, which I've been wanting to do for awhile now, so some good...

Broken tank

I just need to cry to someone who understands for a moment, so please indulge me. My daughter tripped and whacked her head on the top rim... she's just fine, but there are now about five cracks in the side of my cherry tank, one of which runs completely from top to bottom. The worst part is, I just ...

I'm trying, but the best I've managed so far is a small blur. They also live in my plant farm tank (they make for good pest snail population control), so they can be a bit hard to find. I'm going to try again at feeding time tomorrow, maybe they'll be more cooperative... it is right behind the khaki...

So the green stuff just got WAY creepier. I was checking out the shrimp in the main tank, and noticed that one of them has the green stuff too, except it was PULSATING. Does anybody know anything about this? I keep searching the archive and such, and am finding nothing. Will be trying to fis...

Well, the shrimp with the spot died. Green stuff shrimp still seems normal, except for the green stuff, though. Wait and see, I suppose.

Ghost shrimp disease?

The question mark being because I'm not sure if they are sick, or if I'm seeing normal variations... anyway, I got a few more from the LFS because my population has been dwindling (the filter broke while I was sick, and my husband didn't notice...). One has a redish patch on its side, near the swimm...

Well, turned out to be a moot point... by the time I found the net and turkey baster, something had eaten them. It was odd, the female was sort of standing next to them, almost like "um, ok, now what am I supposed to do?" The males have stopped their flying for now too, so it's back...

I would try to get a video, but my video camera SUCKS and won't focus on the shrimp... all you would see is java moss and rocks. Anyway, one of the cherries has done something... interesting, I think. Well, frustrating is more like it... appears to have laid her eggs ONTO THE JAVA MOSS. At any rate ...

Whelp, ghost momma seems to have dropped most of her eggs (infertile? inexperienced? who knows  ). Still carrying a few though, so we'll see what happens. Also, my male cherries are swimming around like CRAZY today, so I think somebody molted. :-D It's funny, the females I'm seeing, the males ...

Hey, that was my thread. :-D All you can do, make sure they have CLEAN water, and enough food, and eventually the worm will pass. The blasted thing will get freaking huge before it does, but if the shrimp continues to be active, chances of it surviving are good I think. As you can see in the linked ...

Yes, it's the ghost that's berried, no berried cherries yet, sorry I wasn't more clear. Anyway, it's been four or five days now, and she's still hanging on to the eggs, so I'm guessing that means they're fertile. They're also turning a lighter color, more khaki than brown. Time to invest in a net br...

So, I could have sworn I posted this the other day, but I guess I forgot to push the button or something. So, found one dead cherry, but the rest seem fine, am finding lots of molts, and one of the larger females seems to be developing a saddle. Yay! Due to fear of any babies getting eaten, I...
