Re: Tourmaline mineral balls
over the last few months i have noticed that my shrimps have been more active and the little bit of color they do have is extrordinary. the black and white stripes across their backs is very noticeable and the orange/red spots on their tails is very vibrant. i occasionally find the shrimp crawling a...

Re: Breeding Alpha Opae Ula (Metabetaeus lohena)
no exp. with them, but im assuming that if they live in the exact same space as the opae's it cant be too hard to rear them. an alpha only tank would be ideal for them (you, and a breeding program) thought i would think so because theres no competition for the algae. it may be wise to remove the par...

Re: First Aquarium!
if the snails arent moving, the ammonia levels may be a little high. my suggestion is a 50% water change. some might object, but from the minuet i put my snails in my tank they have been NONSTOP moving and eating.

Re: im so excited!
ive seen it a few more times since the first sighting. its a nice bright red color. i did turn the little pump back on, but i turned it down to about half of what it was at. the shrimp actually seems happier with a small bit of movement in the tank. it casually strolls along and picks at food. ive s...

Re: Rilis stopped breeding
this is gold. roofs contain an amount of copper (for anti algae purposes) which will leach into the water and kill your shrimp.Mustafa wrote:And I wouldn't use rainwater, especially if it came from a roof. I'd go with RO water.

Re: Surprise Shrimp Arrival
you're better off with smaller tanks so they are more visible. from what i understand they arent the most active shrimps. im gona do an experiment with them when i get mine, with a 40B, 20L, 10, 5, 2.5 and see what works best for viewing and best for breeding. might be a good experiment in the class...

Re: How Many to Start With?
I vote for 20. In 2.5 gallons 10 will get lost even 20 is not a lot. Given time the 20 will turn into 100. I would not worry about ammonia from 10 or 20 shrimp. Most of the ammonia problems stem from over feeding. I started with 25 in a gallon tank but they were babies from my main tank. 10 per gal...
