change 50%, make sure you use RO water from your local fish sale place and use instant ocean salt. when they popcorn around then they are being killed by ammonia, the wrong salt or poisoned by cleaning agents etc.

your water has killed everything, the rest will be dead in a week, do a water change and find out whats rotting or going bad in your tank.

most mornings its about 33F here this time of year so i need a heater

Just a quick question, what temp you guys have your tanks, heater or not whats it sat at? here in the UK you need a heater as it gets very cold.

Here is the test for my main 17 gallon tank from last week,

PH is around 8.2 - 8.4? This has two large lumps of ocean rock.

They will raise the PH slowly, it won't be an over night fix with egg shells.
