Heater

Now I know the instructions says no heater is needed but I have a question in regards to it. Reason I’m asking is cause the winter months my tank has been hovering below 55 degrees. My house is cold and during the day it won’t get any higher. The shrimps just chill along the top of the water and the...

Re: Newbie introduction

Im so glad i decided to get opae Ula shrimp. I really like the activity level of this shrimp. Swimming and crawling all the time. The algae has grown a lot and is starting to spread around the aquarium. The moss ball is still being a moss ball. I know i have at least one of the snails still alive. ...

Re: Molting?

Glad you didn’t do anything. These guys are pretty hearty creatures and they tolerate a lot. They’ll be fine. I’ve seen mine moly before and it can be a little of a struggle at the very end.

Re: my Opae Ula finally arrived!

They change color usually based on what’s going on in their environment. If you top off water, if a female sheds and she’s ready to mate, if you feed them, they’ll all change in color from red to pink to pale.

Re: Setup suggestions needed for newbie

I understand it’s hard to not order both the shrimps and snails at the same time but this should be a lesson learned if you ever want to start another tank. I currently have two tanks. A 1 gal and a 3 gal. But as far as your questions, you should be fine to add everybody into the tank in about 2 to ...

Re: Dying snails?!?

So probably like 90% of the snails stopped moving. Some are dead but most from what I can see are still inside their shells. Maybe they’re hibernating or slowly dying. Temps have been fluctuating in SoCal with now being around 50 to 65 in my house.

Dying snails?!?

So my main 3 tank is doing great I think?!? All of my shrimps are fine and one is even berried. My snail population continues to blow up and there’s a decent amount of new baby snails. However I have quite a few snails that have died off and all I see are their empty shells. They all range in age fr...

Re: How many shrimp/snails is too many?

From what I’ve read from others, they’ll self regulate. I’ve been to some fish stores where they sell different colored shrimps and some of the 1 gal tanks have a ton of shrimps but they seem fine.

Re: What Is the Highest Temperatures Baby Opae Ula Can Withstand?

Yeah both of my females at my house dropped all of their eggs. =(

The one at work, 4 hatched and the other female still has a bunch of them holding on to her.

So in conclusion, the weather probably played a big role with the babies survival rate.

Re: What Is the Highest Temperatures Baby Opae Ula Can Withstand?

I also live in SoCal. This summer heatwave is not good. My house has been as high as 90+ degrees. The temperature reader on the tank only goes to 86. Two of the mothers dropped almost all of the babies. Last time I checked I only seen one that fully developed and is still attached to the mother. Don...
