The only other thing I can think of that I did "to" the tank, was to add a freshwater flounder...it was labeled as a scavanger, and was in the tank for about 3 weeks then it up and disappeared...I think it died (this was the first one I have ever had, and I could not find any feeding info ...

Great photos but none of the shrimp shown were males. I'm sure color intensity of males varies with the strain and diet but I have brilliant red females like yours but none of my males are more than a transparent light pink. They are smaller and much more slender in build. Perhaps a photo of the ma...

I think she may have died...I found this girl eating/fighting over pink cotton candy (well, that is what it looks like...pink flesh)...I wonder if the shrimp could have sustained an injury...if so, how? http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o216/Suzie_Q_01/The%20Shrimp/IMG_2331.jpg http://i121.photobuc...

Hi SuzieQ. Seems like good RC shrimp water to me. Is it possible you only have females? Also, I have found that I have my best results when breeding RCS is when there is thick plant growth especially Hornwart seems to give good results followed closely by Najas guadelupensis then Java Moss. I have ...

I am no expert (I have had mine for over 4 months, and still no babies), the females are the ones with the orange behind the heads...to me, all the shrimp in the pictures look like females (my first batch of 4 were all girls...I got a second batch of 10, and only 3 ended up being males). Then I boug...

Ok, the parameters... Amm. 0.0 Nitrite 0.0 Nitrate between 0.0 and 5.0 (closer to 0.0) pH 7.6 (this is normal for my tap) gH 179ppm (I don't know if I am reading this right...it took 10 drops to change) kH 107.4ppm (again, don't know...6 drops to change)...I have the API kH/gH kit if that helps. As ...

Thanks guys...NewJohn...this behavior is a lot like what you described. The salt was more out of habit (I have done 2 water changes w/o salt)...my pH is normal (tap water) around 7.6...I just did a water change yesterday, and my "scheduled" Testing is later today, so I will post the result...

How long does it take for a RCS to molt?

I looked briefly, and could only find one thread that even comes close to my question... I have a female RCS that has been molting for over 2 days now...she started by the upper portion of her exo breaking loose from the tail part. The head part is just bearly loose...little more than, and the tail ...

Thanks for all the replies! Just an update...the ramshorn snails found the eggs and and ate them all! I have decided to remove most of my snails (have a lot!)...I want to get a Dojo Loach (Weather Loach), so I will keep them in a different tank to feed to him/her. I hope my next posted question here...

Mystery Eggs

I found these this morning in my RCS tank...other critters are...5 (3 week old) Betta fry, Ramshorn snail (know what their eggs look like), Pond Snails (jelly sack eggs), trumpet snails (1), some sort of "coin" looking snails (look like TINY versions of ADULT Ramshorn), and last are 3 are ...

From what I understand both species are found in the same geographical area. It could be another instance of something like 'Jaguar' and 'Puma' being the same species, with different common names. I'm not an expert on large American hunting cats, but I did a report on them in Jr High. So, as everyo...

I agree with NewJohn (my shrimp have yet to breed, so this is what I am doing as a newbie to RCS). I have removed my lighter females into a 5.5g and I am leaving the darker females in my 10g breeding tank...my males are not nearly as dark as yours...my lighter females look a bit darker than your mal...

Beautiful shrimp! I only have 1 even close to your females color, and all of my males are a lot lighter than yours!

Good luck on breeding them...I plan on doing the same thing...just breeding the darkest females that I have in my tank.
