Re: New tank started today - tank #2
JoeG: Thanks for the update. I enjoyed reading your prior posts. I am interested in the fact that you only cycled your small tank for a week before adding shrimp - how much of your original tank was put into the new one? I am upgrading my small tank to a 5 gallon but was planning on waiting for 4 we...

SuperProofer - thanks for your comments! I will post more photos in a month or so when the shrimp are added. However, I have one blue plant in my original tank and if you enlarge the photo, there is a shrimp on a blue leaf ..... he was kind enough to pose for me .

Tank Setup - Before & After. For fun, post a photo of your tank and tell us about it .....
:D I decided to update my seven year old tank that had six shrimp. F122AAA2-325D-45E6-B041-E54E4F199176.jpeg I added 25 shrimp and macro algae. I then decided to update the entire thing last week with a new tank and decorations. For the new one, I used black sand as substrate based on info from some...

Do I need to cycle if transferring everything to a new tank?
I have a seven year old 2.5 gallon vase tank that ended up with 7 shrimp after a couple of failed attempts. The 7 shrimp never bred. Since Covid, I moved the tank home from my office and added 20 shrimp. My original substrate was a blue colored gravel. Though my water parameters test normal, I notic...

Re: Remove algae or leave it
Sabbylina - thanks for taking the time to comment and your info about the snails. I added 15 shrimp and the macro algae a couple of weeks ago and removed a little of the brown algae. The tank is now next to a window and gets indirect light as well as my 12 hour on/off cycle light. So I will have to ...

Remove algae or leave it
Hello! I have been on and off this forum for 7 years. I currently have a 1.5+ tank with 6 shrimp, snails and plastic plants. The tank was on my desk at my office. However, with COVID-19, I decided to bring my tank home so I can continue to add distilled water as it evaporates. My 6 shrimp have never...

Re: Too much algae or too few shrimp???
Thanks for the responses! I feed every two to three weeks - - a small piece of a fish food flake. The tank is in my office and has no natural light. I will try cutting down on the amount of time my desk lamp is on. Attached are a few photos. Looking back a prior posts, my tank is actually four years...

Too much algae or too few shrimp???
Hello: I have a small 1.5 gallon "tank" (vase) in which I currently have 5 - 6 shrimp and a bunch of snails. I started with more shrimp, but my first vase cracked and most of the water came out and I lost quite a few. In addition to the shrimp and snails, I have two plastic plants, some ro...

Re: Tragedy strikes!!!
UPDATE: Well, on Wednesday when this happened, I was able to purchase some purified drinking water (no distilled in store) as well as a "large globe" vase (its about 2 gallons) from the Target that is walking distance from my office. I mixed up some brackish water and then using my hand, s...

Re: Tragedy strikes!!!
What are your thoughts on mixing up brackish water using purified drinking water??? The store was out of distilled. Oh, I have enough marine salt left over to last several lifetimes. Thanks.

Tragedy strikes!!!
When I left work yesterday, all was well with my desktop tank that I just recently posted pictures of. Today, when I arrived to work at noon, do to a meeting outside the office, the ENTIRE bowl/tank was empty!! At first I thought it was a cruel joke or the cleaning person did something . . . then I ...

Re: Photos of tank
LeShrimp: Thanks for your thoughts. 8) I cycled the tank for a few weeks before adding the shrimp, snails and marco-algae. They have been in the tank since June 6. Previously, when I moved the tank to the window, the shrimp got all excited and swam around like crazy. In another post, Mustafa said th...
