scampi-- can you comment on the customs issue? i'm curious how one would get it 1) out of HK and 2) into the US w/o problems. i bought a few tiger shrimp off some guy who said he brought them back with him from HK on a trip there. i don't know if he had them exported or whatnot. shrimpboyLA-- have y...

shrimp are typically low bioload. adding 2 CRS is perfectly fine in that setup. i wouldn't add too much more tho, just to be on the safe side.

I was just planning on using a lot of plants and no filter. I was thinking of putting in either a few Ghost, Cherry, or Amano unless I see something else in the stores areound here. Thanks Branden this setup is perfectly fine. plants are their own biofilter. they use the waste products produced by ...

molts sink and are translucent. dead shrimp also stay at the bottom, but you usually will notice some form of coloration (white, pink, orange... kinda like a cooked shrimp). when they molt, everything goes with it, antennae and all... at first it's frightening cuz you think one might've just died, b...

sounds like a shrimp fanatic dream vacation to me! :-D they have so many species in HK that don't seem to be avail here. can't wait to hear all the goodies you bring back. i'm so glad they (customs) allow it. i suspected as much, but i wasn't completely sure. how do u declare it? i'm curious ...

Take pictures of all your cherries, retardo can verify them for you one by one :-D haha .... i am by no means an expert, far from it, in fact, but i'm starting to get a feel for identifying the males from the females. all the pix i've seen so far indicate females, so i don't know what that means ex...

what size are the eggs? if they are fairly large, they will hatch into mini versions of the adults. if the eggs are small, they will hatch into larva. larva will require a brackish to full ocean salinity to be raised until they become benthic (mini versions of adults). larva also will require a diff...

I thought the females will not have eggs on their bottom flippers unless they mated with a male and the eggs fertilized. i don't believe this to be true. i've heard and read stories of egg dropping by adult females due either to unfertilized eggs or stress. however, there's no telling really since ...

as far as i'm aware, shrimp are not picky about temp. i have two tanks, one at room temp (about 62F) and another set at 79F. i don't know the conversion to Celcius, but i think they should do just fine either way(room temp or heated). YMMV.

u didnt' state whether there was a male RCS in the tank or not, but based on your description, it sounds like there isn't. in that case, it's most likely that the eggs are unfertilized and she will eventually drop them. a mature female shrimp will continue producing eggs while she is tending to ones...

aquatic-store.com sells them online. i believe it's $18 for 6 plus shipping. i've never ordered from them personally, but i haven't heard anything negative about them either, so they may be a good source. aside from A-S, mustafa may be the only other online source, at least that i'm aware of. franks...

sponge filters all the way, whether u put that on an aquaclear intake or by itself. the pores of the sponge usually are small enough that they will not take a baby shrimp prisoner. i tried growing some amano larvae (1-2mm) into small shrimp, and the sponge filter didn't suck them up. for miniature v...
