Have you thought about enlisting other breeders who might be interested in expanding a population in captivity? If there's a species out there that's in real danger of being wiped out by harvesting, there's a much better chance that 15 people here have room for one more tank in order to greatly expa...

If you don't care about the price, selling them should be easy. Only hassle is bagging and boxing so many of them because people don't tend to buy them in large quantities. Or you could sell a ton of them cheap to someone who doesn't mind bagging and boxing them to sell them in smaller quantities. :)

about Mustafa's setup

I was looking at one of the shrimp variety pages, and saw a note about Mustafa breeding "sufficient quantities" of a species in order to bring it to the hobby. That made me curious... how large of a population do you feel you need to have in order to offer it in the store? And that questio...

I've heard of people swapping to get some genetic diversity. I'll probably do it one day... I've kept track of who I got mine from to try to not just trade with someone who has siblings of mine.

Fan shrimp are utterly harmless. I'm always concerned about what harm can come to them, never what harm they can do.

And I'd say the more hidey holes they have access to the more they're going to like their environment... assuming that's where the current is.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know how long it typically takes for a vampire shrimp or a bamboo shrimp to go from birth to full size? It's odd watching my cherries hit adulthood in the time it takes for these other guys to just molt again.

No, I haven't had the chance to experiment yet. I just got amanos a few weeks ago and am ready to try with them when eggs show up.

I'd also like to try with bamboo shrimp if I ever see a male in a shop somewhere (already have a female).

I'd like to know too... I'm ready to try breeding them but so far I haven't seen any eggs.

Unfortunately I have far more males than females.

Your water sounds like mine, and I have a huge population (bred in that water) and have never seen a dead shrimp to date.

I had made a $70 order with AAG, and then an hour later happened to come upon this thread, which made me start looking for posts about AAG on other shrimp forums as well. After reading it all I cancelled my order. In the interest of transparency, I'll post my cancellation email and their response to...

It's definitely not foolproof, but just that temperature alone has the potential to kill them off. The hotter it is the faster they develop, but there is a ceiling to what they'll tolerate, and it isn't very high.

But I'd agree, if you want to be sure it's going to take a little more work.

You might be able to take care of the ich using temperature alone. Where those shrimp come from there must be some week of the year where their water is 84 deg. I also think it's more sudden changes in salt content rather than salt alone that do harm to ich (has to do with its ability to adjust to o...

Should one be concerned if some of their vampire shrimp are kinda brown instead of blue? A few of them have lightened up after molting.
