New 2.5 gallon jar tank
My 24-year-old son is moving into his own apartment and I've been cycling this big jar to be a portable shrimp tank for him. I've got a color-changing LED light in the lid so he can give it some atmosphere when he wants. I'm starting to see algae, and about 25 shrimp from my own tank will be living ...

Re: Rili Opae Ula!
I started my 5-gallon tank with 26 shrimp from Mustafa a couple years ago. I now have 150+ shrimp and several have that white stripe in the middle. It reminds me of the Canadian flag!

Re: Question for Owners with Older Tanks
I have had a 5-gallon tank populated with shrimp since 9/18. I have a light on it for 12 hrs/day. I started with 26 shrimp and some snails now have about 150 (?) shrimp or so. No clue how many snails I have, as they tend to burrow in the substrate a lot. The glass was obscured with algae at first an...

Re: Setup suggestions needed for newbie
Regarding plants, just keep it simple and get what is sold on the petshrimp.com site: the chaeto and/or the mossball. That's it. Mustafa knows this stuff backwards and forwards and he says these are the two green things that should go in these tanks. Good luck.

Re: Is My Chaetomorpha Dying?
I've had my tank going for a little more than a year. At first the chaeto was growing like gangbusters, but recently the main clump looks like it is dying. (There is a small clump that established itself in another part of the tank that is doing okay.) I usually have the light on 12 hours or so. My ...

Baby Boom!
Exactly a year ago I received 26 shrimp from Mustafa. In the spring I started seeing berried females and then finally a single solo baby here and there. A month ago I hit the jackpot and got about 18 babies all at once. I was so happy. Then a few more were born. Then I went on vacation for a week an...

Re: Known safe lava rock?
I got a couple of big lava rocks at an aquatic pet store called World of Wet Pets. :) If you have a tropical fish store near you that's your best bet. If you do find some rock that you're unsure of, I would imagine you could boil it in distilled water for several minutes to kill any critters lurking...

Re: 30gal Opae tank?
Mustafa said he had breeding in tanks that he kept outside in San Diego where the low temperature was 39 degrees! These are some hardy shrimp indeed.

Re: Babies!
Congrats! I've got a tank full of babies right now too! I started with 26 shrimp in my 5-gallon tank less than a year ago. A few months ago I started getting a solitary baby here and there but today I've got at least 15 babies floating around (all released within the past few days). So now I've got ...

Re: Yellow Opae Ula
That's so cool! I've seen posts by Mustafa where he has shown some of his different colored shrimp, like orange, yellow, blue, pure white. His stock gets some colored "mutants." They are fine -- just a different hue.

Re: The 3 survivors of the shattered ecosphere
Except for the poor deceased one, in a way it was fortunate for your shrimp that you broke the ecosphere and sprung them from that little torture chamber!

Re: High Res Pictures and movies of the lil' shrimps
That is so cool! I like how your shrimp has a sort of "clear" middle with red on the ends (like the Canadian flag -- ha ha). I don't think any of mine look like that.
