Well, well, well ... Look at what I just saw! It's the first mother-to-be in the tank (I got shrimp last September). I guess the activity paid off. Hooray!

Okay thanks! I do have an LED light on at least 12 hours a day so there is probably stuff growing that I can't see that they're eating.

I suggest piling up some lava rocks to create some crevices and little tunnels for them to hang out in -- the shrimp seem to appreciate the option of getting out of bright light. This is my 5-gallon tank. I got 26 shrimp and 10 snails last month (the snails already reproduced). I’ll probably order 15 or 20 more opaes soon. I work at home and spend a lot of time shrimp gazing!

Sure ... I posted some of the tank in the original post but here are tank-with-shrimp pics. I added small lava rocks since the previous pics because they love the nooks and crannies.

Cool pics! Look at those guys going for the biofilm on top. My biofilm layer has been shrinking towards the center and I wonder if that's due to the snails feasting on it at night.

Update: So far so good! 25 shrimp plus one freebie and 10 snails plus a baby arrived safely. They all seem to be thriving in the tank and most of the opae ulas have turned red after recovering from the stress of traveling.
