Re: Algae Growing on Shrimp

Sometimes mine swim around holding algae like they're taking it for a snack. Has it moved around in the last few days?

Re: Help me get babies please

Yeah I can't tell if it's hair algae or not, but as soon as my new tweezers get here, i will be trimming it either way.

The temp doesn't change really fast, more just the daily fluctuations. Do you still think that's it?

Re: Help me get babies please

They have hiding places under the lava rocks and shells. Its kinda hard to see because of all the algae. After reading some of the posts on here and looking at youtube videos, i think some of it might be hair algae so i'm going to remove parts of it. I can see at least 12 shrimp out and about today,...

Re: Sands slowly turning brown

I have a fine layer of light brown stuff at the bottom of my tank. It could just be debris from the shrimp like bits of their shells and waste products. But will these waste be potentially toxic in the long run? Nope! The waste products from the shrimp feed the algae in your tank. After looking at ...

Re: Questions about getting started

I would wait three weeks before putting in shrimp, just to make sure it's fully cycled. I didn't wait as long and my shrimp were not happy at first. However, I didn't have the ball of algae in there as soon as you did. Since they take a few days to get there, you'd probably be fine if you ordered th...

Re: Help me get babies please

I also have 2 living zebra thorn nerites from the 7 that I bought originally. THAT may be part of the problem. 7 nerite snails in a 1 gallon?? Wow.... Even *one* is actually too much for such a small tank. They eat pretty much all biofilm in a tank and don't leave much for the shrimp. We need you t...

Help me get babies please

Hey guys. I've had my tank for about 6 years and haven't had much luck with babies. I had a set once but it was right when I had to move so she dropped all her eggs but two in the commotion D: I haven't seen any berries since then and that was 4 years ago. I have a 1 gallon tank with 10-20 shrimps i...

Detritus Everywhere

In preparation for new additions to my tank, I just removed everything and rearranged it. Also, one of the main things I did was replace course gravel/pebbles with fine sand. I didn't change the water though. Now, all this white detritus is just sitting on top of my beautiful sand and looks gross. A...

Re: Minimum number of shrimp per gallon?

thanks! I was just worried that it would be eaten before it could regrow, but I can always buy more if that happens.

As for shipping, how long does it take for new shrimp to get here (California)? I leave for vacation on the 10th and wanted to make sure they would arrive before that.

Re: Minimum number of shrimp per gallon?

I have a 1 gallon tank with 9 shrimp in it. I was thinking of getting more, especially with the half price going on right now. Since they are social creatures, how many would you recommend would be good to have in the tank? I was thinking a final number between 15 and 20 (for now). Also my algae clu...

Acclimating Snails

I've gotten Zebra Thorn Nerite snails to add to my Hawaiian red shrimp tank. The seller hosts them in freshwater so i have to acclimate them to my brackish tank. Right now I've just got them in the water they came in, in a new container. After about a day i added half a cup of my water to theirs. I ...
