Re: New "bottle tank" setup
I just bought a large 5 liter (1.3 gallon) glass coca cola bottle. Is this a good vessel for super shrimp? I'd imagine I can fit 1 gallon of water (maybe a bit less) with sand substrate. I have some corals, but can't imagine how I can position them nicely. I'm not new to super shrimp, I have a 1.8 ...

Re: Bioluminescent dinoflagellates and Opae Ula?
did a little research regular seawater is 35g/L these dinos do best in 24g/L. our tanks are not even close to that. im guessing we're somewhere around 15 to 18g/L. i dont know if it would cause them to die if you added them. maybe you could drip acclimate them? i would try growing them first and pla...

Re: Bioluminescent dinoflagellates and Opae Ula?
the idea sounds cool. i guess as long as it not a chemical and they dont die off in massive amounts causing an ammonia spike it should be ok. i suppose it cant hurt to give it a shot. got a link to these things? ill try it out.

very nice! as for the growth, it could be a lack of nutrients in the water maybe?

Re: im so excited!
temp is on the low side as its winter. the house is at 68, so 66 isnt bad for 40gal no heater. i do have a pup in for circulation to cycle the tank. but im going to remove it before i put the shrimp in. i want the algae to grow evenly around the tank. im going to add one tetra food pellet once a wee...
