Not at all, a few shrimp in a tank will take so long for any trace amounts of ammonia to start a cycle.

What type of nerites do you have? The ones I have only grow to about the same length as an adult Opae'ula, I have 3 in my 17 gallon.

people seem to be under the impression your tank will cycle and finish it just by leaving the tank to age, this isnt correct, if you have no ammonia source then you wont get the nitrogen cycle going, even once its started and has complete it will still need a source of food or you will get miniatur...

if you are having ammonia then your tank isnt cycled, unless you get an ammonia source then it wont start.. the ammonia feeds the nitrites which is still toxic to shrimp, that will linger for a month or so then you will get a bacteria that will eat those nitrites and produce nitrates. the nitrates a...

I have a similar situation, I have 2 identical cubes, same water parameters, one grows a lot of green algae but the other only grows a small amount? I don't quite understand it either lol.

Until you test for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and SG you are just left guessing what's wrong.

looks great! you can get some nice fan coral which makes up some height while looking nice!

I know the eBay listing you are talking about, you can get them a lot cheaper from America but the postage is around £40 odd alone.

thanks for letting me know, my 3 tanks are barebones black sand and huge lump of ocean rock in each. adding some colour would be nice.
