Re: Where did my snails go?
I don't see my snails much, i don't even know how many are in there anymore. I see an occasional baby here or there and various sized snails infrequently. Recently, i discovered i have snail that is about an inch long. I saw it emerge from the substrate one evening and was blown away by how big it w...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)
They make small shrimp sized nets, they work fine. You can find them on amazon. I have also used extra large pipettes with the tips cut to increase the opening (from Carolina Biologic supply) to suck shrimp up from one tank and squirt them into the other. A turkey baster can also work but you might ...

Re: MiniShrimps
my poor little shrimp, he has been struggling for five or six days now half stuck in his molt, he is still alive though and each day it seems to be slowly shedding a little bit more. His whole head is out of the molt but all his appendages are still stuck. I tried to use a bamboo skewer to separate ...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Bummer. I thought for sure those dark round spots were eggs. Do eggs develop before they are fertilized or only after? Guess they don't need a new tank now  kidding... I will start cycling a new one anyway... Their current tank is on the small side. Plus I want to change the substrate color t...

Re: Ecosphere Empathy
Thanks for the advice! It's hard to see but there actually is a lid (plastic wrap with holes poked in it). I will not feed again for at least a month. Please tell me these are eggs?! Re: MiniShrimps
I haven't seen any of those shrimplets since... However i spotted a third berried female with the other two :D But for the past three days i have one shrimp who has been freaking out, and appears to have molted only it's front six appendages and is now kind of stuck halfway between molting... Every ...

Re: Hermit crabs?
I have a 5 gallon Hermit Crab tank with five Dwarf Hairy Leg crabs that have survived well over the past 10 months...You can read about it in the other forum thread i have going. I do have some shrimp in there with them. The other day I saw a shrimp riding on a Hermit Crab. It's not the first time i...

Re: My success story
I still think it is because I used a substrate with lots of organic material--hermit crab substrate. I had to deal with ammonia at first, but it gave the algae/biofilm a big head start. This resulted in the shrimp population expanding rapidly. Now the shrimp numbers are great enough to sustain the ...

Re: "Planted" supershrimp tank
I edited my previous post after you answered, i think i have somehow gotten a hair algae in my tank, it seems to be taking over the chaeto and there is a fuzzy layer on most of my substrate and corals. not quite sure if i can get a pic but it looks similar to what is in your pics there... very filam...

Re: "Planted" supershrimp tank
-Compsopogon (aka black beard alga) from fresh water, it appeared itself, on another plant and now small bushes are growing everywhere I think I somehow have gotten this in my tank and it seems to be feeding off the Chaetomorpha and slowly killing it. It might not be this though... do you know what...
