Re: java moss question

You can't acclimate moss to Supershrimp brackish conditions, not even close. It won't even survive low salinity brackish water. It just dies slowly while staying green for months sometimes and people think it has "acclimated" and go write an article about it and spread misinformation. Trust me java ...

Re: My water looks dirty and my microalgae is dying HELP!

Snails definitely help with removing excess organics from the substrate, which accumulate over the years and which the shrimp can't get to. I personally think snails are a must. The cloudiness is definitely caused by something decaying and causing a bacterial bloom. Other than that...I would take ...

Re: pH too low, suggestions

Hi there and welcome!

It seems like you're trying to "cycle" your tank like it's going to be a fish tank with a high bioload. With Supershrimp tanks everything is different. You don't need or want a traditional "cycle". Have you read the step by step instructions here? If not, I would urge you to ...

Re: Ready for shrimp?

I think your tank is ready. Due to the macroalgae competing with the biofilm, you may not see much visible algae, but I think you're good to go. And, yes, snails can move around during the day, too. It's absolutely normal. And if anything dies in there...just leave it in there...unless you have a ...

Re: Fire glass

Anything that's glass (and only glass as opposed to some chemicals on it...or metal in it) should be ok. Glass is usually pretty inert.

Re: "White color morph" with yellow eggs on state flyer?

Yeah, that one is definitely a mutation. It's not the same mutation as our orange or neon-yellow ones. I isolated a white mutation also, but my white mutation has snow-white eggs, they look like snowballs. I'm in the process of building a colony as we speak.

Re: Cloud layer Update

I’d ordered snails and after a hot weather hold of several weeks they safely arrived. Wow, what a difference! Those little dudes are worth their weight in gold! Water clarity is back to normal in just a week of introducing them into the tank. The organic growth will take some time to control, but ...

Re: Dwarf Hermit Crab

Yeah, hermits tend to be tolerant of salinity changes as most of them live close to the shore where they can be caught in tide pools or other temporary pools. After rains those pools can have very low salinity. I'm just surprised that they can live at those low salinities permanently, or at least ...
