Re: New SuperShrimp Fan!

I used dragon stone too. It's beautiful and you can check my tank out in another thread which I have made :) my rocks are arranged in the iwagumi style which I think is very cool. Google it and there are some guides on this rock arrangement since we don't have much plants to play around with. All th...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Thanks Varanus and Ken for the inputs. Really appreciate it, especially to find some whom I can discuss this with. Opae ulas are so rare and people who keep them are even rarer when compared to CRS and all. I have two of them: 1 zebra nerite and 1 horned nerite. The poo condition seems to be more st...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Just curious, will there be a situation where the nerites are eating up algae faster than they can grow on the surface that I would never see algae even if the ammonia hits zero? I heard from my friend who passed me all the marimo in this tank that the marimo sucks up nitrate and nitrite so fast tha...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

@ Varanus, I'll observe the poop condition tank for another week or so as I hope the poo helps to speed up the growth of beneficial bacteria in the tank. If the poo condition gets really bad, I'll take the poor zebra nerite out though I'm not sure where it will have to go in this case.

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

I see. Do they poop less when tank matures? I'm hoping for that or I may take out the zebra nerite when the tanj matures and; I believe that is the main contributor of the mess.

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

4 days after the marimo is in. Water is totally and delightfully clear right now. Got a feeling my cleaner snails did a great job the past few days. However I was quite shocked to see so much debris or brown matters on the substrate and marimo. Anyone has the slightest idea what these might be as se...

Re: White and red colour change

There are 8 shrimps in a 10 x 10 x 20 container. Admittedly some are paler looking but the vibrant red ones would look less red. Hopefully it's not a sign of something more.

Only shortcoming of this tank is a lack of hiding spots perhaps.

White and red colour change

I read that the opae turn white when stressed out and red when they are comfortable and all. However, it is weird why mine would look so vibrant red when I see them in the morning around 6-8AM but would turn so dead pale by the afternoon or evening time. These opaes are those in my first tank; diffe...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Almost one week of cycling for my tank. Just added more marimo yesterday which ended up making the water even more cloudy; the brownish matter in the core of those marimo (I believe them to be beneficial bacteria) spilled out when I tore them apart to decorate my tank. Very satisfied with the look o...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Thanks Ken! I'm wondering what will happen if I put in the shrimps before any form of algae is formed but the water parameters is okay (e.g. zero ammonia and ph is around 8 )? Cos someone told me actually I can just put in the shrimps without any worries and his shrimps are surviving alright. Does t...

Re: My success story

Ever since seeding my tank with Mustafa's water/snails/moss ball in April, I've had berried shrimp non stop. My tank had gone without having any babies for 2 years prior to ordering from Mustafa. So I'm very happy! It's about 70 degrees in the house but the tank is in a cooler room so I'm guessing ...

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Thanks for the quick replies Varanus. My country unfortunately is unable to order anything from Mustafa and hence I'll need to make do with what I have :) here's hoping the cycling goes well.

Anyway, bubbles almost all gone from the tank after another 12 hours :)

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Finally , my tank is ready! Photos show the steps of my set up.

Took about 6 hours for the water to clear up. However there are a lot of air bubbles everywhere in the tank. Any idea why?

Should I put in marimo for cycling?

Thanks Ken.

Any normal sand will do then right? How about black onyx sand? Just felt black will allow the shrimps to stand out better

Re: New tank here as well. Suggestions are welcomed :)

Just read a bit more about the soil and found out that it buffers pH downwards of a range from 5 to 6.5 :( what should I do if I can't refund the soil? Will putting in more crushed corals and egg shells work? Or adding in baking soda? Please advise!
