Re: Mating Behavior of Macrobrachium crenulatum
Veneer, Do you have brackish hatcheries setup? I think I've PM'd you about what I'm currently doing, attempting to breed M. scabriculum. I made two hatchery/nursery tanks by taking 5g buckets and large plastic bowls. I cut the bowls so that they fit tightly inside the bottom of the buckets, then I u...

BiffMalawi,
Did you go ahead and purchase some of the 'sunset shrimp'? If you did, I'd be interested to see pictures of what they turned out to be.

Re: HELP : Cherry shrimps darting around
The shrimp should be picking/eating every so often. It is normal to see them perch in a given location for a while though. FYI, when a female shrimp is fertile she emits a hormone that gets all of the adult male shrimp riled up. They will stalk her all around the tank, until she mates. Once that hap...

Re: Celebes Jungle Crabs
I am very tempted to try these, after I've got the hang of rearing M. cf scabriculum. My wife thinks I'm strange for my fascination in creepy crawlies. I just think she's weird.

Re: Life Cycle Completion in Brackish Ponds?
I'm sure that something like that is possible. However, the larval shrimp would have to be at the perfect stage to reach post larva. And since those types of oceanic events are infrequent, I doubt that any type of sustained Macrobrachium shrimp population could survive for very long (a few years or ...

Re: My garage setup for shrimp
Even if there your garage floor is a suspended concrete slab (there's a room under the garage), I would put hard foam sheet under your tanks. That way there's even heat dissipation. Concrete can suck heat/radiate cold very efficiently. I would also look at possibly wrapping some type of flexible ins...

I know some people temporarily put shrimp in a small glass or plastic dish to photograph them.

Re: Life Cycle Completion in Brackish Ponds?
That is very interesting. It is my understanding that those species of Macrobrachium shrimp do require brackish water to full marine water to mature from larvae to adult shrimp. I wonder if it is possible that someone stocked the pond... I would love to get some M. acanthurus to breed. I'm still anx...

Re: Update on my shrimp
Sounds like you have everything well in hand. One thing to keep in mind, with a fan blowing, it will cause water evaporation to happen more quickly. So, you'll need to pay close attention to the pH, GH & KH in the affected tanks. It should be easy to keep under control, just make sure that when ...

Re: in berry with no male?
Most of my shrimp are Macrobrachium species. Most of my Macro shrimp are Red Claws. I don't have the tank space, if all of those shrimp were adults, but I sell most of my stock to local pet/fish stores while the shrimp are still young, less than an inch long. I have 19 tanks operating right now, and...

Re: in berry with no male?
Well she molted again yesterday and today I noticed berries. I'm getting the impression that females don't need a male in the tank to be in berry. And for the record, I stopped using iodine additions. So far everything's going well, thanks Mustafa and all for the great input! :D Hey Guba, to answer...

Hey, thanks for the help badflash. I sent you a PM with my email address. BTW, have you read the paper published last year, about M. rosenbergii and M. dacqueti? There's the title, authors, and abstract of the paper. The Giant Freshwater prawns of the Macrobrachium rosenbergii species group (Crustac...

Re: Shrimp larvea and bristlenoses
yeah sorry, i just figured everyone knows BBS is brine shrimp. i guess there's an opportunity for there to be folks here that don't deal with that aspect of the hobby though. i have something between 100-115 tanks running at any given time, so since i only have enough dedicated to shrimp/crays to s...

Breeding Macrobrachium cf. scabriculum
Greetings all, It's been a while since I've posted here, but I have been reading. :) I have become interested in breeding some of the Macrobrachium species that require brackish or marine water to mature. I am starting with 'Chameleon shrimp' or M cf. scabriculum. I've been reading all of the inform...
