Atya gabonensis has red spots

Post by DatDamWuf »

OK, the shrimp that was falling over after moulting has recovered. He has taken up residence seperate from my other vampire shrimp for the first time but appears to be healthy. You were right Mustafa!

The other gabonensis has a couple of red pock marks on her legs that I am concerned about. I saw this on her before her last moult but was reassured when she successfully moulted and the spots dissappeared and did not return.

Well, now they have returned, does anyone know why this is happening? Is it a problem or normal before a moult? (she is due to moult, it's been about 2 months). Is it indicative of missing minerals/vitamins/inappropriate food sources? Other?

Hi,

Is there any chance you could post a pic? It would probably help people who might have the same situation.

Sorry I can't help but I don't keep this shrimp.

According to your discription of events it sounds like a normal occurance with your shrimp to develope these spots before a molt. I know in my shrimp I can tell by their behavior and also coloring that a molt is soon to happen. I can understand your concern, because some of the symptoms of a molt are similiar to a shrimp being sick, i.e. sitting still, not feeding, and becoming milky in coloring. Hopefully that is all that is going on with your shrimp.
