a female CRS is found dead and i took the eggs ...

Post by futron »

i took the eggs from the dead CRS (i'm so sad  ) and place them somewhere near the returning stream of water (from the bio filter) to hopefully keep the clean and fresh water flowing around the eggs, will that work ?

will other CRS take them for lunch ?
will the eggs die soon too ?

any thought or comment is very much appreciated

It depends on how close to hatching they were. If they were just a day or so away, it could work, but the bigger issue is why she died. If it is water quality, the babies, evenif they do hatch, may not make it.

you're right, but i've no idea why she died
the water quality has been kept very constant
the nitrate level, tested once a week, is also kept at low level
perhaps she's too old (about 15 mths old) to see the babies' hatch ?

the eggs still need about a week to hatch ...
i've been watching them closely for 2 days
so far none of the other shrimps are interested in the eggs
but the eggs show no sign of death either ...

i really hope they can make it

anyway, thank you badflash

OK, I didn't know that you'd had them that long. Just keep an eye on the rest of the shrimp. Good luck with them.

Has anyone ever had eggs that were harvested from the mother and later had the seperated eggs hatch  ?

I've never tried it with RCS, but I did do it with ghost shrimp. I could see eyes in the eggs, soI thought is was worth a shot. It worked.
