Crystal red shrimp care...

HI, I am new to PETSHRIMP Forum.

I am planing to buy 6 CRS from a breeder. But I was wondering if they are easy to keep and breed. If anyone can explaing to me the steps of keeping them would be nice.

Do a search of the forum and the shrimp varieties page for the answers you need. Tip: Always do a search of the site before asking a question. This is a rule and you gotta follow it.

These are NOT a beginner shrimp unless you have naturally soft acidic water. If your water is hard,like many of us, start with Amano or cherry shrimp to learn your trade for a year or so. You don't want the shrimp to pay with their lives while you learn.

Yep like badflash said make sure your water is acidic PH atleast 7.0 or better 6.5 prob otherwise 1. They wont breed as often if at all. 2. Their life span will be much shorter..i did the mistake by introducing my crs into my tank with cherries that had PH of 7.5+ the cherries do fine and breed i got many young but the crs wont breed and i had 3 die..just make sure your water is acidic dont make the same mistake like me

What i can tell you , because i start almost like you is to read read and again read before buy anything, that's also true for any live animal not only shrimp.

after that , start with a specie who is know as "easy" , you see i put quote with easy, because i think this word is really relative.
what can be easy for one can be hard for an other one , depend on lot of factors.
Exemple me i had really hard time have hard water and maitain it.
most of people here is the opposite, about the acidic/soft water i have absolutly no problem , first because my water is acidic/soft already from tap
and second i come from dwarf american cichlid so i have lot of experience with acidi/soft water

So like other says , start with cherry , exemple, and if you really want to start with CRS , why not , not a good thing in my opinion but why not, but try to keep them alive first before think of breed.

Thanx guys, for all your opinion. well... I am a cichlid keeper for many years. I had kept dwarfs and all kinds of cichlid. but then I got bored, so I wanted to try something NEW. The reason I said I wanna try CRS is because, the bee shrimp,glass shrimp, ETC. COMPARINGto CRS they have barely and difference in there price. normal shrimp here are around 2.50-10 dollars each, and CRS are only 6 dollars from a breeder, so I thought I might just get that instead.

Dude those are some pretty nice crs! i must say for 6$? you might be wrong though but if not lucky you

Not sure in other countries. But I know you can get CRS of that quality at US$5-US$10 (NT$150-NT$300) a piece from the local breeders in Taiwan. If you want to get one with some specific features, such as tiger-tooth, v, sun-circle, white body, etc., it is still quite expensive --- 10+ times more $$$.

Hey you from taiwan ??? anywayz I saw them in taiwan 600NT starting and SS its like 10000+NT

And yep i am pretty sure its CRS. IF the picture are CRS. and I am not really looking for high grades BUT just something tat looks nice for my tank.

I am not sure about the price in fish shop in Taiwan.

But it is cheaper to buy from breeders. More importantly, most breeders allow you to go to their places and pick the shrimps.

Some CRS lose their color (especially the white bands) when the light turns off. So if you can pick the shrimps yourself, you want to do that and you want to ask the seller to turn the light off for a few hours before you arrive.

Too bad, I am in US and was not able to pick my own shrimps So I have to accept whatever the breeder picked for me. Some of my CRS lose their color as I turn the light off at night (the color comes back after the light is on for a few hours). Some have the solid white bands regardless light on or off.

I do not have SS or high grade CRS yet. I am not ready for the situation: a US$100+ shrimp dies on me.

HAHA not ready... I personaly don't really recomand anyone buying a shrimp tat is more den 10 dollars... cuz its only a SHRIMP and it only reaches 2.5 cm. and the life span is so F$#*%# short!!!
