Anyone else using bottled water?

Post by DoranM »

I kept doing water from the tap and then adding chemicals to make it better..
Finally I went to walgreens and bought 2 big cases of water for 10 bucks, it filled about 30% of my 55 gallon tank and vuala my water levels are all great now.

Is this ok to do?

It should work but wont it get annoying after a while having to always buy these big cases of water when you want to do water changes? i guess as long as everything in the tank is happy it should be fine. I know R/O water is safe only thing that might be a problem in the long run (although not yet proved i dont think) is that if you have shrimp in the tank they might lack certain nutrients since R/O has none but you could always fix that by using R/O right or Seachem Equillibrium.

What "water levels" were you trying to fix?

We might be able to help you come up with a more affordable long term solution.

It sounds like a blend of R/O water and tap water would be great for your tanks, and you'd save money and hassle in the long run buying an R/O system. It would pay for itself in about 3-4 months if you are doing 1/3 water changes every week. . . .

I agree that use of R/O water will save you money. You can buy an R/O system if you need a lot of water or you can buy it by the gallon at a local vending machine or at a local pet shop. I have been using R/O from a vending machine and my shrimp are healthy and breeding. Best wishes with your shrimp and keep us updated.
