Indian Zebra Shrimp

I just want to share information and photo's of my Indian Zebra Shrimp.

They are kept at a PH of 7.6, and there temp. is 74.

They are Wild Caught.
I have had them for a little over 2 months.
After the first week, They settled into there new home and started to color up. I was able to sort out 2 Males and 2 Females.
I am still trying to figure out what Species, the rest of the Shrimp are.

After the 2nd week, 1 of the Females became Berried.
They have hatched, and now both Females are Berried.

This is a Male
It is Clear with Black Markings.
The Tail has a hint of Orange

This is a Non-Berried Female
Her body color is a Rusty-Orange with Orangish Black Markings
The Stripe along the top of her is a Olive Drab Green.

This is a Berried Female
Her color is a Burnt / Rusty Orange
And there is no Green stripe

I will update, as soon as the first batch of young.
Are big enough, to take Pictures.

I also have a male of this type of shrimp. I have been trying to learn more about it, please tell me the water parameters you are keeping your shrimp in. Will be waiting intently for pictures of the babies

Do you think that keeping them in soft acidic water would be alright? I am keeping the shrimp with my CRS and it seems to be actively swimming and eating. The other Indian shrimp profiles in the "Shrimp Varieties" page say they need alkyline water. What are your thoughts on this?

When I get a new Species in . I start with water parameters that are listed in the Shrimp Varieties Page.
As this Shrimp was not listed in the Varieties Page, I used the water parameters for other Shrimp that live in India.
If I can not get them to Breed, I adjust from there.

How long have you had Yours ?
Mine were breeding within 2 weeks.
If you want to try and breed them, You might want to put them in Alkyline Water.

As stated in other threads, Shrimp can live in ,other than Perfect conditions.
But, if they are not breeding. They need something changed.

Have the Shrimp colored up yet ?
Or are they still Clear ?

Both my Female and Males were Clear with Black Markings for the first 3 to 4 days.
After that, the Females started to color up.

The Shrimp I received were Wild Caught.
And they are hard to observe, they like to stay hidden.

The shrimp did color up after a couple of days and hid during that time. My shrimp was store bought in a tank along with shrimp labeled "Black Algae Eating Shrimp".

Thanks for the pictures and the little report, John. These shrimp are one of my most favorite species out there (although I must admit that I have a lot of "favorite species"

I like these very much, too.
Here is a photo of one of my females. It is really stuffed with eggs.

BTW, the shrimp that are sold together with the striped ones are of the same species I found out. It is just that not all shrimp do have these stripes. Like in a population of Cambarellus shufeldtii. The stripes are genetic and dominant.

Well at least they breed together. I bougth some rainbow shrimp once, too. It is funny, but it was only females. That the webshop did offer them with a picture of a indian zebra shrimp and only 2 of the 32 that survived of 40 I ordered had indead stripes is a different story.
I then put in 2 males from my pure strain striped Indian zebras and got only striped offspring.

Did the offspring look just like the male Indian Zebras or did they look like a mix of the two shrimp

?
