chloramines
Chloramine in the tap water in my area is 3 ppm. Most chemical treatments I've seen for aquaria use sodium thiosulfate, which converts the chloramines to chloride and ammonia.
So, watch out for the ammonia generated from chloramines.

Re: chloramines
I've just found out that most water conditioners contain Natrium thiosulphuricum, which can be hazardous to shrimp. Is this the same thing we are talking about? I've never been to good in chemistrymiqws wrote:Most chemical treatments I've seen for aquaria use sodium thiosulfate

It's been quite some time since I had a Latin class, but I'm pretty sure natrium thiosulphuricum is sodium thiosulfate.Jackie wrote:Natrium thiosulphuricummiqws wrote:Most chemical treatments I've seen for aquaria use sodium thiosulfate

I think that you're right as "Na" is the symbol for Sodium and it probably stands for Natrium.Bradimus wrote:It's been quite some time since I had a Latin class, but I'm pretty sure natrium thiosulphuricum is sodium thiosulfate.Jackie wrote:Natrium thiosulphuricummiqws wrote:Most chemical treatments I've seen for aquaria use sodium thiosulfate

Nesting Quote Boxes
I just wanted to see how many nested quote boxes could fit in one post.IndianaSam wrote:I think that you're right as "Na" is the symbol for Sodium and it probably stands for Natrium.Bradimus wrote:It's been quite some time since I had a Latin class, but I'm pretty sure natrium thiosulphuricum is sodium thiosulfate.Jackie wrote: Natrium thiosulphuricum
