Thanks to the death of a really mean dwarf gourami, I have been able to reshuffle my tanks (all the fish can go together now yay!) and have room for another species of shrimp! I have been looking at these:
Look familiar to anybody? The site calls them blue midget shrimp, says they get about 3/4 of an inch, and are Caridina sp. They are looking to me like the Indian dwarf shrimp on the shrimp varieties page, but I am a noob and still can't tell species apart except when there are color differences, so I thought I would ask.
I got that shrimp from Frank before and it looks nothing like the picture. They are not blue. In fact, the species that comes in is not consistent either. You may get one species in one order and another species in another order..all under the name "blue midget." Mine were almost identical to green shrimp...in fact I'm pretty sure they were some type of green shrimp. That was over 2 years ago and they died within a few weeks due to "import/export/dealer holding tank(s) stress" as most imported shrimp do. So...if one decides to get imported shrimp, one must do everything possible to establish a reproducing population...if one's animals survive and reproduce that is.
That is a bit disappointing to hear, although not entirely unexpected... although, this is not from Frank, just somebody using his picture. I have emailed them with a number of questions, we will see how good they are I suppose. On the bright side though, it's like mystery box shrimp! If I liked surprises, I would be all over this, I'm sure.
