Accclimating shrimpies

Post by fishbone »

I've been purchasing ghost shrimpies from my LFS because, well, they're the only ones available, are cheap and I love them. The problem is, they keep dying on me one by one over the course of a few months. 3 months ago I had 10, now I'm down to one.
I'm pretty sure my tank is OK, the one issue I can think of in what I'm doing, besides the possibility that the shrimp are not in top shape at the LFS to begin with, is acclimation. The LFS water has a lower pH than mine [6.something vs 7.4]. What I've been doing is acclimating them over the course of one hour using the drip method. Should I give them more than one hour?

Tank info:
10 gallon, planted
been running for 8 months now
other fish are just 6 neon tetras
2 bamboo shrimp
a bunch of malaysian trumpet snails

I don't use fertilizers, the only thing I use is Prime to condition the water, although it's well water so no chlorine present. I live out in the country.
