Interesting shrimp article

Post by Lady Friesian »

Hi,

I came across this journal article while doing some research, and thought maybe some of you would like it :D It's a cool look at the diet of Caridina shrimp in the wild.

http://www.bioone.org/perlserv/?request ... 2.0.CO%3B2

Has anyone here ever tried Hibiscus leaves with their shrimp? (The article says it's very common where C. weberi live, and favored by them) Or is the garden plant another species entirely?

Also, I'm guessing this particular species isn't found in the trade very often?

I'll have to give them a try. I have Rose-of-Sharon in my yard, which is a winter hardy Hibiscus. Probably has a lot fewer tanins than the oak leaves I've been using.

There are probably 300 species, but many look much the same.

Wow, I didn't know there were so many kinds! I'll have to try the Rose of Sharon leaves at some point.
