First Time Ghost Shrimp Owner
I purchased two Ghost Shrimp yesterday, one of which was pregnant. I added them to my 1.5 gallon Betta fish tank, but the Betta was bullying them around. I decided to get another aquarium just for the Ghost Shrimp, and purchased a 1.77 gallon tank after work. When I went home I noticed the female was dead and her eggs were not inside of her anymore. Now the other shrimp is all alone in this 1.77 gallon tank, and he seems very lonely. I will purchase more shrimps tomorrow, but I am wondering how many I should get for this small tank. I also have no idea what happened to the female. The Betta didn't try to eat her dead body, and where did the eggs go? I want to get another pregnant one or two, but I don't really think the babies will grow up. I was reading that it is quite complicated to feed the babies. Should I just get algae wafers?

I just realized that the one Ghost Shrimp I have left has a creamy colored body now (not see-through anymore). His head is still clear, but the rest of him is whitish and he isn't moving his back legs, just a few front ones. His body looks hunched over and he isn't moving it. From what I've found online it sounds like he may be molting or dying.

Ah yeah, he was dead this morning and has turned completely white. So this is accurately a sign of death. I wonder what I did wrong. They are only $0.33 at PetSmart, so I am willing to try again. Since I have a separate tank now, I will try and get 3.

Re: First Time Ghost Shrimp Owner
I purchased 4 new Ghost Shrimps and had no idea what to name them. Then I was reading an article about Iraq so I named them Mosul, Kirkuk, Ramadi and Najaf. They seem to be doing fine and are eating Bloodworms and Goldfish flakes. None of them are pregnant, so I'm wondering if they are all male. I need to add more decorations to the tank. All I have in there is the plastic plant that the tank came with. How boring is that? The temperature is at about 77F. I'm worried that my filter may be too strong for them. Do they not like a lot of movement in the water?
