feed for freshwater shrimp?

I feed flake food, algae wafer pieces, the ocasional blanched cucumber/spiniach/ shredded carrot. Are there any other feeds I should consider? I ask as I see shrimp food advertized that is supposed to help them have a harder exoskeleton.

Advertised shrimp food is usually just a gimmick. Any high quality fish food is just as good, and many times better than any shrimp food you find out there...and cheaper, too. As with anything, you have to take advertising with a huge chunk of salt.
