Pink Rili Shrimp?

Post by Baccus4702 »

G'Day Everyone
I have been keeping cherry shrimp for a couple of years now and am now seeing some spontanious varitations naturally emerging in my tanks. I recently discovered this female who appears pink with Rili qualities. If you dont spot her at first look to the left of the almost rili shrimp - another one that has occured naturally in my tanks.

Is she something special?
My usual coloured cherry shrimp are like this

I also have a few of these occuring which I think might be called red wine cherry? They have a red quality that is what I liken to red glass

Your "normal red cherry" females have full red legs, you may name their "sakura". Teir have black marks on the body, maybe this is the kanoko gene!

Thanks,
I thought Sakura where where the shrimp are more mottled instead of being a solid colour and I thought the solid colour was considered "fire" :?: I have not heard of Kanoko gene, can you please tell me more about it? I did have a person especailly ask for some of my darkest red cherry shrimp and if mine are in some way special it would good to be able to pass the information on to him for his future breeding plans.
Thnaks again

I didn't see anything special actually. Those animals are all within the normal coloration range of red cherry shrimp. Your "pink" cherry is just throwback to less intense red. There are lots of people out there with animals like that. They are generally not considered desirable among people who breed for color.

For me
"red cherry"= feet with red dots
"sakura"= full red feet

And the kanoko sakura is a red sakura with black parts, like this one:

Those "kanoko" sakura are very interesting (and I saw them about two years ago, but then never again). The problem seems to be that there are no established populations of them. I don't know of anyone who is breeding them so there seems to be absolutely no information about them on the internet. It may actually be that they are not true breeding shrimp....we'll have to find out.

Kanoko shrimp do look interesting :D , some of my females do have black patches on them but no where near as pronounced as in the supplied picture. I had pretty much put the black on my females down to an age thing, since they tend to get darker the older they get.
