Betta with shrimp?

Post by YoungMrHoward »

I am starting a 3 gallon tank for 1 male betta in the next couple of weeks. I would love to add shrimp to the tank. I'm considering red cherry or ghost shrimp. Is this a good idea? If not, are there any shrimp species that would be a good idea?

I would recommend searching the forum with the keywords "betta" and "shrimp" as this question has been discussed many times over the years. Short answer: I would not recommend it. The red cherry shrimp will get eaten, and, depending on the size of the "ghost shrimp" or even the species of "ghost shrimp" either the Betta will bother the shrimp to death, or the shrimp will take a liking to the long fins of the Betta and bother it to death.

Thanks. I had a feeling it wouldn't work out.
