Optimal numbers of Opae per gallon

Post by Harry »

I am starting a second tank, which has a 1.25 gallon capacity. My current tank is 1/2 gallon and has 16 Opae. I'd like to know the optimal amount of shrimp per gallon, so that they will have adequate companionship but not be overcrowded.

There are no optimal numbers. If you set up your tank as per my instructions (every two or three weeks feeding), you can have as many shrimp as your system can support. I would recommend trying to breed these shrimp and find out the maximum number for your setup that way. I would not be surprised if your half a gallon could support 50-100 shrimp at some point...but most likely not if you mess with it too much (feeding, water changes, etc.).
