Algae and bacteria from a different FISH tank
We have a good sized fish tank at my house and I was wondering if I were to take some algae from the sides and put in my soon to be shrimp tank would the bacteria crash it or help cycle it? Also, if I were to put some rocks in our fish tank to have algae start growing on them for the shrimp would that be ok or would it harm the shrimp/crash the tank?

I do not think you can seed a brackish tank with freshwater algae/bacteria. The same goes with full salt to brackish. If you plan to wait till spring to buy shrimp you can start a tank now and it should be cycled by the time your shrimp arrive. The same with the rocks. If left in your new tank they will add more surface area for algae/bacteria to grow. Start with a small tank. Saves $$ and 10-20 shrimp will not look lost.
