Snails (Ramshorn specifically) asexual reproduction?

Post by hardware_failure »

It is commonly documented that many freshwater snails are hermaphrodites, possessing both male and female reproductive organs. What I am unclear on is, can ramshorn snails reproduce from just one specimen? Some sources say that while they are hermaphrodites, it still takes at least 2 snails. Other sources say just one and you're done (infested)

Thanks.

Yes they can, but the offspring are very sensitive

Thanks for the reply. I currently have 1 ramshorn in a small 1g overridden with algae. It's been there for about two weeks and is growing very fast. He/she/it moves very fast too! It's basically just an experiment at this point. No eggs that I can see or offspring yet. I will wait and see.
