How Many to Start With?

Hi All:

I am within a week or so of ordering some shrimp to go into a new 2.5 gallon aquarium. See attached photo. I am about 3 weeks into the cycling process and have two balls of macro algae and 10 snails. All seem to be healthy at this point.

My question is a simple one...I am trying to decide on a starter population of 10 or 20 shrimp. Anyone seen any issues with ammonia in going with a larger number like 20 for a tank this size? Any tips you can provide would be welcome. Thanks!

I vote for 20. In 2.5 gallons 10 will get lost even 20 is not a lot. Given time the 20 will turn into 100. I would not worry about ammonia from 10 or 20 shrimp. Most of the ammonia problems stem from over feeding. I started with 25 in a gallon tank but they were babies from my main tank. 10 per gallon is a good start.

I have 300 in a 17 gallon and they are quite happy.
