Does anyone know do shrimps such as Opae Ula regenerate limbs? Today i discovered my Alpha (Metabetaeus Iohena) missing his feeler and both hind legs and was kind of dragging himself across the floor. I was wondering if the limbs will be regenerated or is there any way to accelerate the regeneration.
I read that other shrimps are supposed to regenerate after molting. How does this process work? Does the leg get longer and longer each molt, or does a whole new leg come out after a molting? If it does, where does the new leg come from? (Since molting is mainly just a shell of the existing appendage catering to a change in size of the appendage)
I have tried to get a picture of the alpha with the missing hind legs. You can see a stump where the leg is supposed to be.

I don't know about legs, but I've had a couple of shrimp regenerate antennae after a molt.

As long as the shrimp is healthy it will get all of its legs bag after the next molt.

You are right! i transferred the shrimp that lost all of its legs out into a hospital tank so that it wont get harassed by the rest of the alphas. It was only able to move by fanning its swimmerlets and wasn't very agile. The molt came in about a week, i observed closely, all the legs have miraculously came back! thats simply amazing... heh...Mustafa wrote:As long as the shrimp is healthy it will get all of its legs bag after the next molt.
