Would like to provide a shrimp home!

Post by NFR-22467-A »

Hi there, ive had fish tanks for quite a long time, since i was a little kid, and wanted to get into something new, and i stumbled across this site, and after looking around for a while have decided that keeping shrimp could be a lot of fun and would like some info....

I currently have a free 10 gallon tank, which is a well-maintained heavily planted FW tank that has been up and running with no fish or anything in it which I was originally going to keep as just a planted tank with nothing else, but I would like some activity in the tank.

The lighting is quite bright, pH is usually upwards of 7.6, temp is kept around 80F, and the water is semi-hard, and I would like to start keeping shrimp. However, I don't know if anytime soon i would be able to switch my shrimps to a larger tank, but would still like to have a happy little shrimp community going on in there.

Is there a particular species which would prosper in my tank with my water conditions and relatively small living space?

Thanks for the help, and sorry about the long post!!!

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to add, have very little algae in the tank, the hygrophila difformis (water wisteria) takes care of it quite well.... Is this a problem? Thanks!

You have alot of choices in a 10g. Any small atyids and maybe a woodie would be suitable.
