Chaeto turning clear

Post by billy2020 »

Hi All, I bought some of the brackish chaeto from petshrimp.com to help while tanks is cycling, and I noticed the strands are slowing becoming clear after about 4 days. First they get spotted as sections die or bleach then whole strands become clear. Not too much but want to save it before it gets worse. I don’t have a good magnifying camera but attached the best pic I could get that shown the green underneath some spotted and clear. Is it too much light? I’m using the LED that came with the aquarium...not very bright. Tank set up for 1 week. Thanks!

I'd say it's more the lack of nutrients than the light. Plants will use ammonia as a nutrient during the cycling process and help to keep the levels down. Add a very small amount of fish food and let it decompose.

Just don't overdo it. I would actually leave things alone. Plants can go through an adjustment phase once they are transplanted to a new environment. The lighting level and the water chemistry are different, so they need to adjust. I'd keep the plant in the peripheries of your tank for a while instead of directly under the LED light.
