Hello everyone, I feel so silly asking this but what water is alright to use for my shrimp? I need to top my tank off desperately.
I used to use a brand that came in a gallon and was plain no additives r/o water from Kmart but as a whole it went under and I haven't found anything like it which has left me with a lot of evaporation.
Can I use distilled water? I'm getting mixed reviews where most seem to say "eh. If it's bottled and coming from a store it's fine regardless of distilled or not".
For instance local supermarkets have distilled Poland spring or deerpark by the gallon.
Again I'm sorry for asking such a basic question but I would rather ask then risk my tank totalling wiping out because I was too embarrassed to ask.
Distilled water is safe, just like RO water is safe. Bottled spring water is dubious. Do not use tap water or well water. Stick with the first two and your shrimp will be fine!
I use the distilled water from Walmart. It costs 80 cents for a gallon jug. If it's not distilled or r/o water, it will contain minerals that will add to the mineral content already in your tank. All bottled spring water contains minerals.
My opinion of bottled drinking water is that it is a huge ripoff but that's a whole different story. I stick with good old tap water for everything but topping off my tanks or mixing new brackish. Then it's distilled.
