I'm living on Hawaii Island,
if I got captive bred opae ula,
would I need to put the tank on a light timer?
would I have to purchase salt and make my own salt water solution, or could I just get salt water form the ocean?

You can go to a tropical fish store and buy some marine or reef salt. Mix it at Half Strength. Remember, opae ula require brackish, half strength sea water. You could use sea water and cut it in half by adding distilled or reverse osmosis water, but the sea water may introduce unwanted organisms.

I mean if youre in Hawaii you prob can find some of those anchialine pools that these shrimp naturally live in. That might be the best option as opposed to adding seawater and diluting it. That way you know they can live in the water youre providing and any other microorganisms that make there way into the water are already coexisting wiht your shrimp
