I seem to have 3 big (mature, probably female?) shrimp, 5 that are smaller adults or subadults, and one that is quite small, dull-colored, and transparent. After I get their tank into very good stable condition (I've had trouble developing the right kind of algae and scum for them to eat), how long do you think it will be before I can get any of them breeding? How long until I can get their numbers up to a few dozen?
In the summer I generally keep the house between 74 and 78 degrees. In the winter it varies between 60 and 75. The opae ula tank has pitted limestone rocks for shy shrimp to hide in, and gets enough sunlight to keep a small wad of Chaeto a healthy medium green, but not enough for it to grow very fast. I have a separate tank in front of the window to act as a chaeto spa and to provide a well cycled water change in case something weird happens to the opae ula tank itself.
How can I induce breeding?
